Staying Grounded on Your Spiritual Journey

When you stay too much in the spirit world, it can lead to adverse physical and mental effects, such as anxiety, lack of focus, and not caring for our bodies well.

I recently experienced this firsthand.

Over the past few years, I have been on a fast-track spiritual expansion. As my connection to spirit grew stronger and stronger and guidance came through more easily and clearly, I began spending more time than usual exploring these new-found gifts.

Before then, I had been very intentional about staying grounded and have had some of my most profound spiritual breakthroughs when I dedicate time to grounding myself each day. However, as I got caught up in the excitement of the new abilities I was uncovering, I let this element of my daily practice slide.

Ultimately, it led to an imbalance between my mind, body, and spirit that resulted in a few rather uncomfortable panic attacks, which are a very rare occurrence for me. A strange and incredibly unpleasant feeling as though my feet couldn’t stay on the ground. And I’m a hypnotist, so I’m generally REALLY good at calming myself down, but nothing was helping except laying on my couch under blankets.

Fortunately, I recognized the connection early on, so I was able to correct the issue by taking more time to care for my mind and my body, while also developing my spiritual gifts, before it got out of hand.

Grounding is also one of my favorite tools for replacing fear with a sense of safety and security.

Grounding is often used to detach your mind from overwhelm, stress, anxiety or other distressing emotions, so it is a great tool for disarming fear when you notice it sneaking into your life. Grounding can be done in very simple ways such as spending time in nature, standing barefoot on your lawn, or taking a bath. These simple acts bring your senses back down to earth quickly.

Grounding meditation or self-hypnosis is also incredibly powerful.

Here’s how to begin:

1.  Sit with your spine straight and your feet planted firmly on the ground

2.  Close your eyes and tune into your breathing

3.  From the root of your spine, imagine a cord or root extending into the earth below you

4.  As you imagine the cord stretching down, also imagine it absorbing the grounding energy of the earth and filling you with a sense of safety, stability, and security

Another great way to overcome fear is through balancing your root chakra. The root chakra is our energy field associated with safety and security. I created a powerful hypnosis recording that combines grounding and root chakra balancing. It has been one of my go-to tools when I sense fear creeping in again. Check it out here.
